RESEARCH

Energy: Collaborative Science Visualisation for Education in Three Dimensions.

A practice-based methodology will be applied to the creation of augmented reality (AR) education resources. The AR resources will address energy transfer pertaining to centralised solar thermal power (CSP) and will target second year engineering students studying sustainable energy technologies.  Collaboration with expert scientists from Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) will provide a sound science foundation. Further, SmartLab will foster interactive design support and an inclusive collaborative research environment. The complex field of energy transfer will be addressed with an innovative three-dimensional storyboard. This three-dimensional AR learning environment will enable students to manipulate parameters and learn at their own pace.  The resulting AR resources will be assessed for education value in addressing science learning (STEAM) for inclusive audiences.
